As a family-owned and operated business, we understand the importance of shopping local and supporting Australian businesses, especially in these challenging times. Our favourite reason is that we are supporting businesses owned and operated by generations of Aussie families - just like Stewart’s Menswear!!
We are proud of our Australian Made collection, featuring some of the most well known brands from Down Under. We take pride in supporting businesses with Australian made products and our customers love to support them too.
Humphrey Law Socks was established in 1947 by Sidney Humphrey and Albert Law. They still work from the original factory, which has been extended, and Albert Law’s family are still managing the business.
Kakadu Traders Australia is a family owned and operated company established in 1972 and they have been crafting iconic Australia clothing including leather hats for three generations.
Lafitte Socks is a family run business. Father Lindsay started the business in 1986 still keeping it ticking as the head honcho aided by Andrea, his daughter, who designs the socks and keeps him on his toes.
Another great Australian story, Mongrel Boots is a family owned business manufacturing footwear in Australia since 1930. The boot making trade has been passed down through 5 generations of the Cloros family, with 3 generations of the family still working active roles in the business.
The Mongrel socks brand was started in 2000 by a couple of Tasmanians who originally came from right here in Mullumbimby. A new chapter began for Mongrel Socks in mid 2019 with a change of ownership to another passionate couple of Tasmanians, who continue to make this true blue Aussie product.
Ugg Australia was established in 1981 and with three generations currently working within the business, theirs is a family business story rich in heritage, hard work and determination.
For those who love the great outdoors, we have Jimmy Stuart bucket hats, perfect for protecting your head whilst having fun in the Aussie sun. And if you're looking for comfortable and stylish cotton boxer shorts, Jimmy Stuart's Australian made collection have got you covered.
At the touch of a keyboard, you can purchase similar items to these from literally anywhere in the world. Whilst this is an option, here are 4 reasons why it is still smarter to choose Australian made:
1. Support the Australian Economy
When you buy Australian made products, your money stays in Australia, but what does this actually mean? You are keeping Australian businesses thriving and creating jobs for Australians allowing them to treat their families to fun things like holidays, dinner and movies, and to pay for things like ballet classes, sporting club memberships and weekly groceries and bills. The business and it’s employees will both pay tax to the Government, meaning there is more money to spend on necessary infrastructure like hospitals and schools.
2. Australian Safety and Quality standards are set in Law
Australian manufacturers make some of the best products in the world, whilst also adhering to Australia’s high safety and quality standards. When you buy an Australian made product, you know that the business makes well-crafted goods made from high quality materials and that they treat their workers fairly.
3. Delivery is a breeze
Who doesn’t want to save time and money? Australian made products are produced right here, so in most cases you will receive your item much quicker than ordering the same item from overseas. This has been evident over the last few years with many overseas shipping delays occurring due to the pandemic. Domestic shipping rates are also much cheaper than overseas and it will take less energy to arrive on your doorstep so you are also helping the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emisions.
4. Looking after our Planet
We’ve already discussed Australia’s strict safety and quality standards, but did you know that Australian businesses must also follow environmental guidelines and policies? With all these standards in place, an Australian made product will also last longer resulting in less products ending up in landfill.
Australian Made Logo
The Australian Made, Australian Grown (AMAG) logo is a well-known and trusted symbol of Australian authenticity. To use the AMAG logo, a business must meet strict criteria set by the Australian Made Campaign, including that the product must be substantially made or grown in Australia and that all or virtually all of the product's ingredients or components come from Australia.
The AMAG logo makes it easy for shoppers to recognise Australian-made products and support local businesses. Those who choose products with the AMAG logo can be assured that they are supporting local businesses and the Australian economy, as well as buying products that meet high quality and safety standards.
