Bamboo clothing has gained popularity in recent years, and it’s not hard to see why. Not only does bamboo fabric have a luxurious hand feel and offer many benefits, making it perfect for the climate here on the Northern Rivers of NSW, it is also a sustainable choice for the planet.
As you read this blog, you’ll discover some of the advantages of bamboo clothing and how our supplier, Kingston Grange Bamboo, supports Aboriginal artists from the Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation through their Bamboo Dreaming shirts.
As mentioned earlier, one of the features of bamboo is its soft and silky hand feel. When you wear a bamboo garment, you will experience unparalleled comfort. Its anti-static nature prevents it from clinging to the body, ensuring all day comfort.
Top 5 features of bamboo clothing

- Bamboo’s breathability allows air circulation which keeps you cool during hot weather, while is thermo-regulating properties help retain heat on colder days.

Friendly to our environment
Bamboo fabric is an environmentally friendly choice. Bamboo plants are naturally regenerative and do not require re-planting. Once it is harvested, the plant quickly re-grows, much like grass!
Bamboo forests produce up to 35% more oxygen than stands of other trees and it absorbs carbon dioxide during its growth phase, mitigating climate change and promoting cleaner air.
Bamboo requires far less water than traditional cotton farming, thriving on only 1/3 of the water needed for cotton. It can therefore be grown in diverse climates and soil conditions. Bamboo’s natural resistance to pests and diseases means that mostly it is grown without the need for chemical pesticides and fertilisers, lowering the risk of harmful chemicals entering the soil and waterways.
How to Care for Bamboo Clothing
Bamboo clothing is easy to care for and can be machine washed in cold water with mild soap. Avoid using fabric softeners or bleach, as these can damage the fabric. Bamboo clothing dries quickly, so it is best to hang it to dry instead of using the dryer. Bamboo clothing is also naturally wrinkle-resistant, so ironing is not usually required however can be ironed on the lowest setting if necessary.
If your bamboo clothing is blended with other fibres, be sure to follow the manufacturer's care instructions as some blended fabrics may need special care.
By following these simple care instructions, you can keep your bamboo clothing looking and feeling its best for years to come.
